NCJW, Bergen County Section reaches out to all members of the Bergen County community with innovative programs that provide education, food, companionship, information, and helps to support the following organizations. We are always in need of volunteers. If you are interested in any of the following, please contact us:
  • BERGEN COUNTY GIRLS COALITION The Bergen County Girls Coalition creates resources for girls and young women to help them to achieve leadership through self-confidence in their abilities to make decisions, solve problems, and attain their dreams and goals.

  • BERGEN FAMILY CENTER SENIORS/SHINING LIGHTS is a social day care program for visually impaired Bergen County adults and other seniors. It is the only program specifically for the visually impaired

  • BERGEN VOLUNTEER MEDICAL INITIATIVE, INC. http://www.bvmi.org/ Provides free primary medical care to low income Bergen County working residents who have neither medical insurance nor the means to pay for care. It will be staffed by volunteer medical professionals.

  • CENTER FOR FOOD ACTION (CFA) provides emergency food, rent and utility assistance to those in need in Bergen County.

  • CHILDREN'S COURT CARE CENTER (CCCC) is a supervised play area within the Bergen County Court House for children of litigants involved in court proceedings.

  • CAMPERSHIP
    The Bergen County Summer Campership Fund is a unique, public-private collaboration. The NCJW Bergen County Section is one of the contributors to the fund drive and the Volunteer Center of Bergen County manages the Fund. The Bergen County Office for Children provides administrative support. Every dollar raised goes directly to send a child to camp. Schools and community organizations distribute applications to eligible families and submit completed applications to the Office for Children.

  • HOME INSTRUCTION FOR PARENTS OF PRESCHOOL YOUNGSTERS (HIPPY) trains parents to be their children's first teachers. It is co-sponsored by Bergen Family Center

  • JEWISH HOME AT ROCKLEIGH The Jewish Home, Russ Berrie Home for Jewish Living, is one of the country’s premier Jewish homes for the elderly. It is a place that offers all the comforts and dignity of home, where families can rest assured that their loved ones are receiving the care, respect and attention they need and deserve.

  • KNIT-WITS The knitting is done by volunteers who like to do 'hands on work.' Includes hats, scarves, afghans, blankets, knitted toy bears. They are made for the children at Holley House, boys at Kilbarchan, residents at Jewish Home at Rockleigh, Hackensack homeless shelter, Hackensack Hospital pediatric ward patients, Israeli soldiers to wear under their helmets, Hurrican Katrina victims, and anyone who needs them.

  • PROJECT LITERACY OF BERGEN COUNTY Since 1987, Project Literacy of Bergen County has provided hope and opportunity for adults who cannot read, write or speak English. It is a coordinated effort to attack illiteracy on all fronts with the cooperation of corporations, educators, volunteers, government and the media.

  • SHARSHERET (Hebrew for "chain") Sharsheret is a national organization of cancer survivors dedicated to addressing the unique challenges facing young Jewish women living with breast cancer.

  • STRATEGIES TO PREVENT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (StoP) incorporates education, community action and advocacy as a means of assisting victims of domestic violence

  • SWIM-IN is a therapeutic water exercise program for people with multiple sclerosis. The program is co-sponsored with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society

  • WALK IN CENTER provides meals in a kitchen/dining center for hungry people in Bergen County

  • WOMEN'S RIGHTS INFORMATION CENTER (WRIC) SHARED HOUSING offers job training and placement services as well as housing alternatives for single parent families

  • YCS HOLLEY CHILD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER is a residential treatment facility for emotionally and/ or physically abused children in crisis

  • YCS KILBARCHAN is a residential treatment home for adolescent boys. It offers a safe environment where each teen's developmental need are met
