On April 23, 2009, in coalition with Choice NJ, NJ Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, the NCJW State Public Affairs Committee came together to educate, advocate and celebrate.

We recognized, with awards, 8 New Jersey legislators who over the past decade have shown their sustained commitment to developing and supporting legislation upholding a woman's right to choose. Of the eight chosen, four were from Bergen County, Gordon Johnson, Loretta Weinberg, Robert Gordon and Joan Voss.

100 women from different NCJW sections (twenty two of whom were from BCS) came together to be educated on two issues: The morning panel explored the question Is Sex Education in the Public Schools Really Comprehensive? In the afternoon, the panel discussed To What Extent Are Children at Risk when Custody and Visitation Rules are Imposed by the Court?
The presentations were professionally informed and compassionate. We came away from our day in Trenton inspired by our panelists to reach out through advocacy to both protect children and parents from spousal and child abuse. And, to emphasize the need to educate our children to make the proper life choices before abortion becomes a necessity.

The program was propelled to success by an incredibly dedicated committee who demonstrated the power of working in coalition.
