ESCAPE FROM IRAN: ONE WOMAN’S STORY

Dr. Sima Goel, author of the book Fleeing the Hijab: A Jewish Woman’s Escape From Iran, was the speaker at NCJW BCS’s April general meeting. Dr. Goel gave her account of her personal journey towards freedom by leaving Iran, crossing the desert and finally escaping to the west. She recounted her experiences living under the oppressive rules of the Ayatollah Khomeini, how as a teenager she rebelled against these restrictions, was black-listed and forced to leaved her beloved homeland and flee for her life. A question and answer period followed the presentation.
