FASCINATING TWO-MUSEUM TRIP TO QUEENS, NEW YORK

On November 19, 2015 a group of 43 members and guests of NCJW BCS went to Astoria, Queens. We visited the (click:)Museum of Moving Image where we had a 90-minute docent-led tour of their featured exhibit, (click:) “Behind the Screen.”Through the use of artifacts, interactive experiences and artworks, we were shown the creative and technical process of producing, promoting and presenting films, TV shows, and digital entertainment.  A highlight was (click:) Tut’s Fever, a room set up like an exaggerated old-fashioned movie theater. It represented the era when movie theaters had themes, elaborate décor and art.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at (click:) MP Taverna, one of the well-known excellent Greek restaurants in the area and concluded our trip with a visit to the (click:)  Noguchi Sculpture Museum. Our docent explained Isamu Noguchi’s philosophy about stone and how he used stones to create his sculptures. There were many varied types of stone sculptures by Noguchi and other contemporary sculptors. There was also a collection of 15 Chinese masterpieces from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Everyone had a great day.
