HIPPY YOUNGSTERS ENJOYED A WINTER WORKSHOP

Though it was warm and cozy inside Bergen Family Center, HIPPY youngsters had fun with snow at a recent workshop with our NCJW volunteers (in picture below Ruth Goldstein, Marietta Kalin, Evalyn Brownstein and Ellen Ptalis.  Not in photo but active participants were NCJW volunteers Edie Kaplan, Joan Schnuer, Phyllis Becker and Sue Kanrich).

The children pantomimed activities like snow ball throwing, shoveling and walking in deep mounds of the white stuff.  They listened to one of their favorite winter stories, made snowmen, drew snow pictures and decorated mittens to take home.  The joy and creativity of the children were amazing, and our members just “kvelled.”  It was often hard to tell who was having more fun — the children or the volunteers.

These craft workshops take place in the evening when the parents are at a workshop on parenting as part of the Bergen Family Center Family Success program. They are in conjunction with NCJW BCS involvement with HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters), a literacy program to help parents  become their children’s’ first teachers.

The next workshop is February 22 at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in participating or want more information on HIPPY, please contact Evalyn Brownstein at teaneckeab@gmail.com.
