MAKING MEALS TOGETHER – A COORDINATED PROJECT WITH NCJW AND THE CENTER FOR HOPE AND SAFETY

Once again, volunteers from NCJW BCS met in the kitchen at the Center for Hope and Safety. They prepared and dined with the women and children in the shelter. “There’s a reason why Jewish events center around the kitchen. It’s a warm, nourishing place.”  This event was no different. Helping others through the steps and one-on-one conversations are a few of the things that happen in the kitchen aside from a delicious meal.  At this Making Meals Together program, section members Joan Cooper, Miriam Batkin, Joan Levy and Ruth Seitelman joined the staff and residents on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Valentine-themed dinner.

Everyone got a taste of the community spirit.  The children made Valentine cards for the moms and special Valentine cupcakes. Together mothers and NCJW volunteers prepared and served a meatball and spaghetti meal for ten adults and six children. The garlic bread was a great success along with homemade angel food cake provided by an NCJW member.

The next Making Meals Together dinner will be in the Spring.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact Susan Kanrichat sakanrich@yahoo.com.
