The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.

A Faith in the Future. A Belief in Action.

MAKING MEALS TOGETHER – a coordinated project with NCJW and The Center for Hope and Safety

Once again, volunteers from NCJW BCS met in the kitchen at the Center for Hope and Safety. They prepared and dined with the women and children in the shelter. As it was stated before, “there’s a reason why Jewish events center around the kitchen. It’s a warm, nourishing place.”  This event was no different. Helping others through the steps and one-on-one conversations are a few of the things that happen in the kitchen aside from a delicious meal.  At this second Making Meals Together program, section members Phyllis Grossman-Kaplan, Gloria Lieberstein,  new member Linda Ezrapour and Ruth Seitelman joined the staff and residents on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Valentine-themed dinner.

Everyone got a taste of the community spirit.  Children made the table decorations and baked cupcakes while their mothers and NCJW volunteers prepared and served the meal.  Together they cooked and dined with fourteen residents and children (who even ate their green beans).

The next Making Meals Together dinner will be in the April-May timeframe.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact Ruth Seitelman at ruth.seitelman@gmail.com – 201-836-2916 or Henrietta Wolfeiler at b.wolfeiler3@verizon.net – 201-996-0932.
