NCJW BCS PROUDLY CO-SPONSORED EQUAL MEANS EQUAL

On October 26th, NCJW BCS members attended the screening and talk back of Equal Means Equal at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood.   The film depicts overwhelmingly the mistreatment and discrimination of women in society and shows the inadequacy of present laws that claim to protect women.  It is a call to action to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).  Our members described the film as comprehensive, upsetting, extremely well done, thought-provoking, powerful and very, very disturbing. One member “was beyond thrilled that we co-sponsored it.”

Roberta Francis, currently the ERA Education Consultant at the Alice Paul Foundation, presented the status of the amendment.  The program concluded by asking attendees to send postcards to their Representatives in Congress urging them to co-sponsor HJ Resolution 53 which would do away with the deadline for the ratification of the ERA. Now more than ever we need women included in our Constitution.   For information about the film visit http://equalmeansequal.com  and about the ERA visit http://EqualRightsAmendment.org.

Representing three of the co-sponsors of the event are Carol Loscalzo, Reproductive Justice Committee of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood; Bonnie Shapiro, National Organization for Women Northern New Jersey Chapter; and Bari-Lynne Schwartz, National Council of Jewish Women Bergen County Section.
