VOTING RIGHTS CALL – H.R. 3899 THE VOTING RIGHTS AMENDMENT ACT OF 2014

yourvotecountsJulie Fernandez, a senior policy analyst, spoke at the Washington office of National Council of Jewish Women concerning the Amendment Act of 2014 and what it proposes:

• (1) States need a layer of oversight and observation in their requirements.

• (2) The new bill expands the ability of federal courts to look into intentional discriminatory practices.

• (3) It restores noted requirements for states practicing discrimination.

• (4) The bill makes it easier for plaintiffs to issue or declare an injunction.

• (5) It allows educated observation and oversight of the impositions imposed by each state.

What can you do? As an individual, write letters to the editors of your newspapers. Write letters to your representatives in Congress. Keep yourself informed of what’s happening, not only in New Jersey but in other states as well.

Don’t forget we have an important election coming up in November. Please keep yourself educated on the issues that are important, such as gun violence prevention, domestic violence, improved immigration laws, human trafficking, and healthcare, to name a few.

Remember: an educated voter is a responsible citizen.
