Subj: What a day, What a Washington Institute!

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Debbie Hoffmann and I are on the train returning from an absolutely spectacular Washington Institute. We are exhausted but exhilarated by the energy and excitement that we all experienced the last several days (feels like a month!). From our opening panel discussing “What’s at Stake for Women in the 2016 Elections?”; to our Woman Who Dared lunch honoring Susie Gelman for her extraordinary philanthropic activism around the freedom to marry in Maryland and Israel; to our closing dinner honoring the incredible courage to fight for marriage equality and win by Roberta Kaplan and Edie Windsor and the moving personal story of our own Minnesota NCJW leaders Cindy Amberger and Lynne Hvidsten; we were educated and challenged to take action on issues we care so deeply about including: Anti-sex trafficking, reproductive justice, advancing gender equality in Israel and, of course, fighting for a fair and thorough vetting of President Obama’s nomination to SCOTUS!

We thank those of you who came and participate, who donated money to the SCOTUS campaign and who walked with us silently before going to meet with your senators to tell them to “DO THEIR JOBS”. Debbie and I did “our” jobs and presented Senator Grassley with over 350 copies of the Constitution each with a signed affidavit by a member of NCJW.

We would still welcome your participation in this campaign in whatever way and at whatever level you deem appropriate. Stay tuned for next steps in how you can take action.

With Faith in the Future and A Belief in Action,
Debbie and Nancy

National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) CEO Nancy Kaufman (left) and National President Debbie Hoffmann (right) led nearly 400 women from the U.S. Supreme Court to the U.S. Capitol, to call on U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and the rest of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee to consider President Obama's Supreme Court nominee. As part of the action, each woman carried a copy of the U.S. Constitution and personally signed messages to be delivered to Grassley. The demonstration came in response to Senate Republicans' stated refusal not to consider any nominee the President put forward, which NCJW considers an obstruction of justice.
