LET’S VOTE 2018: THE KEY TO OUR DEMOCRACY

On a beautiful August morning 17 NCJW BCS members along with a handful of League of Women Voters members met to discuss the best way to get out voters for the midterm election on November 6.  Chaired by NCJW member Bea Podorefsky, the NCJW campaign, called Let’s Vote 2018, will include registering people to vote, including people who have been registered but have changed their residence since the last election, as well as handing out Vote By Mail ballot applications.  Sophie Heymann, a member of both organizations, explained in detail the procedure the volunteers needed to follow and noted that all the materials are available in English, Spanish and Korean.

Volunteers from this committee will visit Bergen County apartment buildings, senior living facilities, back-to-school nights, recreation centers and super markets.  In addition, volunteers will drive anyone who needs a ride to the polls.

To vote in the midterm election you must be registered by Tuesday, October 16.  To receive a ballot by mail the application must be received by the County Clerk by Tuesday, October 30.  A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00 PM the day before the election.  Note:  if you apply for an absentee ballot, you may not vote at your regular polling place on Election Day.
