More Than Eighty Attend “Media Literacy in Today’s World”

NCJW BCS’ Timely Topics and Tasty Treats first program was held on October 30 at Senior Source, a beautiful, comfortable and spacious venue at the Riverside Square Mall.  More than 80 people attended the event co-sponsored by the Network for Responsible Public Policy.

Joe Amditis, Associate Director of the Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State University, provided an informative, entertaining presentation about understanding today’s media and “Fake News.”  He gave insight into the distortions found in media and encouraged us to develop skills in analyzing what we see, read and hear.  He involved the audience in exercises in understanding and using these skill sets and demonstrated how the internet and various web sites can be hacked and material can be distorted or altered to deceive the public.  It was all very enlightening and challenging.
