NCJW BERGEN COUNTY SECTION’S ZOOM INTO SUMMER PRESENTATION FOCUSED ON EDUCATION OF PALESTINIAN CHILDREN – “STOP TEACHING HATE”

On Thursday, August 13, 2020, a large audience from across the USA and around the globe, including UK, South Africa, Israel, and Australia, ZOOMED in to experience Dr. Joan Lurie’s powerful and disturbing presentation “Stop Teaching Hate.” In Dr. Lurie’s words “The path to peace in the Middle East begins in the classroom — but not in these classrooms. Unless today’s children are taught not to hate Israel, there will be no chance for peace in the Middle East for another 25 years.” Dr. Lurie is the co-founder and current co-chair of UNRWA:  Stop Teaching Hate. https://Reformunrwa.org

Click here for a short, impactful video obtained from David Bedein of the Center for Near East Policy Research. Prepare to be shocked, saddened and horrified as you look at just a small idea of what the training of child soldiers is like in UNRWA refugee camps.  If nothing else, it will convince you that these children are suffering irreparable harm and will never grow up capable of negotiating reconciliation.

Note: Funding Update – The USA is no longer funding UNRWA. Sadly most of $400 million once contributed by the US has been made up by other donor nations with Germany contributing the most.

NCJW Bergen County Past President, Fran Butensky, offered an evocative introduction to her colleague and long-time friend, Joan Lurie, painting a striking picture of their career together on the International Council of Jewish Women at the U.N. and Dr. Lurie’s distinguished career as a scientist. We wish to thank Dr. Lurie and The International Council of Jewish Women for generously allowing us to broadcast the one hour presentation she gave to the members of ICJW on July 28, 2020, which was virtually the same presentation that she gave for us “live” at NCJW BCS on August 13.

Click here for Dr. Lurie’s presentation. You will be informed, educated, surprised and empowered.
