QUEEN(S) FOR A DAY – A Cultural Excursion to Astoria and Long Island City

Twenty NCJW BCS members enjoyed Queen(s) for a Day on Thursday, November 16th. At the Museum of the Moving Image we explored the new Jim Henson exhibit that included almost 300 objects and over 47 puppets. We were greeted by Carl Goodman, Executive Director of the Museum of the Moving Image and a friend of Carole Benson’s. Goodman spoke about the museum’s educational program which serves approximately 50,000 middle and high school students each year and its commitment to serving immigrant families.

After a delicious lunch at Monika’s Café, we continued on to MoMA PS1, the contemporary arm of the Museum of Modern Art, housed in an old school building dating back to the early 20th century. There we viewed the first comprehensive retrospective of Carolee Schneeman which spanned her prolific six-decade career. Our excursion into Queens left us feeling both culturally and physically nourished.
