VOLUNTEER TODAY: LET’S GET OUT THE VOTE

Our democracy is at its strongest when every vote is heard. NCJW Bergen County Section is offering two volunteer opportunities. Training and support will be available for both.

  1. Volunteer to make phone calls to our members and offer to answer questions they may have about the voting process. Because of the pandemic, the November election in New Jersey will pose questions and situations we’ve never experienced before, like the following:
      • Where to vote: Will my usual polling place be open?
      • Mail in Voting: For those who choose to vote by mail or absentee ballot, what is the safest way to send it?
      • Completing the Ballot: What are the reasons ballots may be rejected?
      • Ballot Box: What is a ballot box and where are they located?

We will enlist the League of Women Voters to assist with this endeavor. You will be trained to provide accurate information to our members. Training will be mid to late September via Zoom.  Based on current information, we anticipate calls will be made in October.

Please contact Joan Cooper, grammyjoan18@gmail.com; Ginny Wasserman, rubigin@aol.com to volunteer for this project.

  1. To help get out the vote in swing states, volunteer with Vote Forward The portal Vote Forward.org/NCJW created specifically for NCJW members offers us a unique way for you to “GET OUT THE VOTE.” Volunteers will mail letters to voters in swing states. The letter template and addresses will be provided to you. All you would need to do is add a personal note (an example of which will be sent to you), put it in an envelope, address, stamp and mail. Perfect. Right!!!! This ‘get out the vote’ strategy has been statistically proven to be effective.

Please contact Joan Snider at joansni@optonline.net to volunteer for this project.
