WE WENT TO THE DOGS (AND THE MORRIS MUSEUM)

Early on May 2, a cloudy, foggy and chilly morning, twenty-four Bergen County members travelled from Teaneck to Morristown. When they arrived at The Seeing Eye, the sun was shining both outside and inside as they were greeted warmly by a volunteer puppy raiser and her puppy and a Seeing Eye graduate and her Seeing Eye dog. The Seeing Eye is an exceptional non-profit.  It breeds dogs in its Chester facility.  A team – breeding staff, volunteer puppy raisers, veterinarian staff and instructors – nurture a tiny puppy into a Seeing Eye dog wearing a harness. Ultimately, a Seeing Eye dog is matched with a graduate who is blind or visually-impaired and who is able to lead a life of independence and greater mobility.  Read more about The Seeing Eye >>

In a private room at the Morris Museum, members enjoyed a catered lunch of delicious gourmet sandwiches and salads and yummy cookies. Members participated in an interactive demonstration of the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection of Mechanical Instruments and Automata. They learned the history of musical instruments, listened to music from small and very large instruments and imagined people line-dancing and other dance forms while the music played! During a relaxing afternoon, many viewed other exhibits while some enjoyed the museum grounds and the balmy weather. Soon after they returned to Teaneck, the clouds returned and the rain began. But their trip to the dogs and the Morris Museum was filled with sunlight!
